$102,205 Settlement in Portland, Oregon City Negligence of Officer’s Misconduct

The City of Portland, Oregon has paid $105,205 to two women who alleged a Portland Police Officer told them to lift their skirts and show him their underwear during a July 21, 2006, traffic stop or he would jail them for driving under the influence. The two Jane Does alleged the City was negligent for keeping Officer John Alexander Wood on the job despite his similar “deviant, sexual manner” with another woman while on duty in July, 2005.

Wood pled guilty to two counts of official misconduct, agreed to resign and relinquish his police certification, and perform 100 hours of community services while on two years probation. On February 23, 2009, the Jane Does settled their lawsuit for $53,005 to Jane Doe 1 and $52,200 for Jane Doe 2. They were represented by Spokane attorney John Allison and Pendleton attorney Brian Dretke. See: Jane Does v. City of Portland, Multnomah County Court, Case No: 0807-09666.
