Washington State Agrees to Pay DOC Employee $275,000 to Settle Gender Discrimination Claim
Carol Grandmontagne filed a tort claim claiming that she was demoted from her Associate Superintendent position at the Monroe Correctional Complex because of discrimination by her superiors. After Grandmontagne was demoted, she filed an EEOC complaint alleging gender harassment and discrimination. Grandmontagne pointed to the hiring of unqualified males for her previous position as evidence of discrimination. Grandmontagne further alleged that she was retaliated against by DOC staff because of her EEOC complaint and for reporting waste to the State Auditor by her superiors.
The State agreed to settle Grandmontagne’s claims for $275,000. In addition, the State agreed to reinstate her to her former Associate Superintendent position, provided she retired from the DOC six months after the agreement was signed.
