Los Angeles County Proposes $350,000 Settlement in Suit Arising from Vehicle Collision Caused by Deputy Sheriff
In January, 2013, the Los Angeles County Claims Board recommended payment of $350,000 to settle a lawsuit arising from a vehicle collision caused by a deputy sheriff.
In December, 2010, Sheriff’s Deputy Josue Torres rear-ended the vehicle driven by Luis Peralta, who claimed he sustained injuries as a result of the collision. A subsequent investigation by the Sheriff’s Department concluded that the deputy sheriff was responsible for the collision.
To avoid the risks of taking the case to trial, the Claims Board recommended making a settlement offer of $350,000 to Peralta. Source: Los Angeles County Claims Board Recommendation to Settle Peralta v. County of Los Angeles lawsuit, Torrance Superior Court Case No. YC 065 218.
