CCA Pays $1,000 for Failure to Protect Stabbing of Tennessee Prisoner
Corrections Corporation of America (CCA) paid $1,000 to settle a lawsuit alleging the negligence of guards resulting in a prisoner being stabbed.
Prisoner David Gardner alleged that while housed at the Hardeman County Correction Facility on September 10, 200, guards Christine Daniels and Kathy Watson were working the segregation unit control booth. He alleged those guards negligently opened the cell door of a very dangerous prisoner, who ran out of his cell with a homemade knife and stabbed Gardner and a female guard.
The March 2004 confidential settlement was obtained by PLN via public records request. Gardner proceeded pro se.
