$200,000 Settlement Recommended for Innocent Arkansas Man who Spent 5 Years Imprisoned
The Arkansas Claims Commission recommended Rodney Bragg receive $200,000 for the five years he was falsely imprisoned. Bragg was convicted on January 19, 1996 for delivery of a controlled substance.
A federal magistrate ordered his release on December 8, 2000, after finding that Keith Ray, a former officer with South Central Drug Task Force, gave testimony that was “grossly incorrect” and either fabricated or intentionally distorted.
The Commission recommended Bragg receive $190,000 for “wrongful loss of freedom” and $10,000 for loss of property. See: Bragg v. South Central Drug Task Force, U.S.D.C. (W.D. Ark.), Case no. 4:01-cv-04175.
