Sheriff Benny DeLoach announces that on
Saturday, July 28,2001 the new non-lethal Taser
gun prevented a serious injury or death .of a person. He and two of his officers answered a call
reference a mentally ill subject who was ca.using
trouble. Upon arrival a stick was taken from the
subject. The subject's caretaker talked with him
and thought the situation was under control and advised the subject to go into the house. The subject went into the house and came
back with a butcher knife. The Taser was used and the subject was
apprehended without any physical injuries. Sheriff DeLoach said
that if his officers had. not had the Taser, a deadly force weapon
would have had to be usecC resulting in serious injury or even death.
