TABER USE OF FORCE

On April 6, 2001 at approximately 10:15 a.m., Rio Escorted
Officer Beth Brown to Patricia Buckey's residence on Perry's Den
Road, Cumberland, Ohio 43732 after receiving a positive drug
screen from the lab.
upon arriving at the residence, officers had to park 50-60
yards from the residence.
Upon walking approximately halfway to
the residence, a very large dog (brown, approximately 80-90 lbs.)
ran from the porch area and charged the officers.
We were caught
1n the open with no option of cover.
The dog, with its teeth showing, attempted to bite Officer
Brown.
Officer Brown attempted to spray the attacking dog with
O.C. Spray. The a.c. Spray had little or no effect.
With the dog still attempting to bite Officer Brown, RiO
drew the M-26 Taser as the last resort before using deadly force
to kill the dog.
Upon shooting the dog from a distance of approximately
eight (8) feet, the dog was immediately incapacitated and fell to
the ground.
After the five (5) second cycle was completed,
several seconds later the dog ran off, which caused the wires to
be pulled from the unit.
Officers then proceeded to the residence and no one
answered the door.
A short time later, after returning to the Courthouse, the
offender called her probation officer and advised that she passed
the officers when she was returning home,
Officer Brown advised
the offender of the taser incident and was advised to remove the
taser probes from her dog.
The offender Was also ordered to report to Officer Brown at
1:00 p.m. in reference to the positive drug test.
Upon
offender's arrival she advised officers that she located her dog
and removed the probes. (See arrest report)
